Come as you are. Rumsey Tavern is a restaurant, bar and event venue at 233 Lowe Drive in Shepherdstown, West Virginia. We serve lunch, dinner and drinks Thursday through Tuesday, host weddings and private events for up to 300 guests, and cook with herbs and produce grown in our own garden.
In 1787 James Rumsey ran the world's first steamboat on the Potomac, a few minutes from where we cook today. We carry that same restless, make-it-yourself spirit into the kitchen: burgers smashed to order, crab dip made by hand, and greens, herbs and vegetables cut fresh from the garden behind the tavern.

Select herbs, greens, fruits and vegetables harvested from our kitchen garden, worked into dishes whenever they're in season.
Four plates the regulars never let us take off the board. Everything green on them comes out of the garden behind the tavern.
Mint, thyme and citrus come off the garden bench out back. Sundays we run $10 pitchers with solo jazz in Shepherdstown from RJ Brown, 5–8 PM. Happy hour takes 20% off alcohol Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 3–5 PM and 8–10 PM.

Call our 24-hour events and reservations line at 938-234-8063. Someone will answer, even when the tavern is closed. For bookings, this is the best number to use.
Owner Josh and Chef Richie put real thought into the food. We love tavern staples, but we don’t think “staple” has to mean boring. Expect fresh herbs, plenty of flavor, and a menu made with care.
We’re open Thursday through Tuesday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and closed Wednesdays. We’re considering staying open later. Tell us what nights you’d come out, and what would keep you here.
Quite a bit! Our brunch buffet runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. We also have $10 build-your-own burgers, with an extra charge for premium toppings, and $10 pitchers of any draft beer we have on tap. RJ Brown brings solo jazz from 5 to 8 p.m. Come hungry; stay for the music.
$20 all-you-can-eat wings and $3 domestic drafts. We think that’s a pretty solid start to the week.
Yes! Our returning teams keep it lively, even when we don’t post about it. Tuesday is also $12 flatbread night: any flatbread, any toppings, $12.
Sometimes! We’re working toward regular karaoke nights, but dates and times can vary. Check our calendar before warming up your best song. Thursdays also bring $12 tacos with fries: blackened mahi, or chicken or shrimp prepared fried, blackened, or grilled.
Friday is when our seasonal specials make an appearance, and they typically carry over into Saturday. The dish changes, so check the current calendar or ask what’s cooking. Heading home from a Shepherd game? Bring the family by and make dinner the easy part of your day.
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. and again from 8 to 10 p.m. Alcohol is 20% off during those hours. Wednesday doesn’t count because we’re closed, even for a very good happy hour.
